The plant will open at the beginning of next year and will occupy 120,000m2
The Aragonese bed and mattresses company, Pikolín, founded in Zaragoza in 1948, held the official act on Thursday laying the first stone for its new factory in Zaragoza. Although work actually started on the new plant last summer, the company held the official act on Thursday, with the presence of the Aragon Government president, Javier Lambán, the Zaragoza mayor, Pedro Santisteve and the Government delegate in the Community of Aragon, Gustavo Alcalde, among other local officials.
The factory will occupy a built area of almost 120,000m2, with Pikolin investing around €50 million in its construction. The plant is being built in the Zaragoza Logistics Platform (Plaza) industrial area and is expected to be fully operational in January next year.
The company still belongs to the Soláns family that founded it, and currently employs 790 people in Spain and 626 in the Zaragoza business group facilities. In addition to its national production network, Pikolín also has 6 other factories in Europe and 2 in China and Vietnam in Southeast Asia. Its total workforce is over 2,100 workers inside and outside Spain.
The company closed 2015 with an increase in its business figures, a trend that it expects to maintain during the current year. Last year it had a turnover of €392 million, 11% more than in 2014, which was largely due to higher results in the French market.
Currently, a third of Pikolín’s business is in the Spanish market.
The objective of the company is to exceed €400 million total turnover this year.
